Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School

Week 27 - Reading

This week presents us with a great opportunity to think about how fortunate we are to be able to read and how we take for granted the freedom offered to people to write and publish their own books.  As the season of Easter continues, it remains as important as ever that we recognise the importance of seeking truth and purpose from the Word of God found in scripture.

Please discuss with your tutor groups your favourite children's books and provide pupils to explain why particular books or authors have had such an impact on them as individuals.

This is also a chance for teachers to review the texts/books that are available for extra-curricular and enrichment activities around the subject.

SOME PRAYERS ABOUT READING, LISTENING AND LEARNING

Eternal God, your wisdom is greater than our minds can attain, and your truth shows up our learning.
To those who study, give curiosity, imagination, and patience enough to wait and work for insight.
Help us to doubt with courage, but to hold all our doubts in the larger faith of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the scriptures are read and your Word is proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today.

Amen.

Prepare our hearts, O God, to accept your Word. Silence in us any voice but your own, that, hearing, we may also obey your will; though Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

O God, by your Spirit tell us what we need to hear, and show us what we ought to do, to obey Jesus Christ our Savior.

Amen.

O Lord our God, your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Give us grace to receive your truth in faith and love, that we may be obedient to your will and live always for your glory; through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Amen.

Guide us O God, by your Word and Spirit, that in your light we may see light, in your truth find freedom, and in your will discover your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Gracious God, we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth. Make us hungry for this heavenly food, that it may nourish us today in the ways of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven.

Amen.
